  • Kicking Bags and Taking Names

    August 28th, 2014

It's said that laughter is the best medicine. Sometimes this is true...and sometimes what you really need is a good kick in the bag. I'm talking about kickboxing. It's one of the most effective workouts out there, with an almost cult-like following. What's more is that it's an amazing stress-reliever. What could be better than slamming your fists into a weighted bag after that ridiculous argument with your boss? Nothing.

When I say kickboxing, you probably think one of two things. 1. Kickboxing- as in a couple of men wearing no shirts and silky shorts going to town on each other with their legs, arms and fists. There's no escaping the fact this type of kickboxing is a contact sport. This is not the type of kickboxing I would recommend, but if it's your cup of tea then be sure to visit for all the latest news.

    2. Kickboxing (workout)- This is the kind of kickboxing I'm talking about.

This workout burns tons of calories and will get you sweating like never before. You'll come out of the workout feeling exhausted, drained, but most importantly-accomplished. You'll be burning on average 500 calories (the more intense the workout, the more calories you burn). You're going to be throwing uppercuts, jabs, driving knees and kicking legs. Think uppercut, jab, jab, hook, sidekick. Then repeat. For an hour. It's a tough, vigorous workout but the results speak for themselves. Fitness Blender has done a great job detailing this type of workout (including what body parts you'll be focusing on and what types of moves to expect.) You can find workouts online at places such as Youtube, Daily Burn, or even Fitness Blender. However, I would recommend going to a class. There's nothing like a screaming instructor for some good motivation, plus they'll make sure your form is looking tip top.

A few places in Los Angeles specialize in kickboxing workouts and training. Zero to Hero on South Oxford Avenue offers top-notch instructors and competitive prices. Kickboxing is their most popular class so you can be sure they know their stuff! Foxy and Fierce offers a women's kickboxing class and get this- first class is free.

I live in Atlanta and I can't wait to begin classes at X3 Sports in Inman Park. Their schedule is amazing, with more than 4 kickboxing classes a day. They've had massive success, with some people losing up to 15 lbs in their first month. Wow. Seriously, can't argue with those results. Plus, it's not just about weight loss, it's about toning too. Best of both worlds.

    Be a Heroine

Screen shot 2014-08-28 at 12.34.46 PMSo you're all signed up and ready to go crazy on some punching what? You've got to look fly while you're doing your thing! Everybody (maybe just me) has imagined the Screen shot 2014-08-28 at 12.39.01 PMfeeling of being in the middle of a boxing ring, light on your feet, warming up with your hood still on. Show up in the Camo Windbreaker Hoodie by Heroine Sport and you're going to be looking like a boss. With pockets, draw-string closure, and water resistant-fabric it's the perfect option to wear to a high-intensity workout.

Next up, also by Heroine Sport, a great little sports bra called the Black Studio Bra. It's the perfect blend of support and function. It has breathable, 4-way stretch fabric and mesh details for maximum breath-ability. But most importantly, it's perfect for showing off those abs you'll be sculpting in your kickboxing classes.

  • Getting to Know Trina Turk Activewear

Trina Turk has been an established force in the fashion industry for quite some time now. I've always loved the lines of her dresses and the fun patterns she chooses. But for the longest time little did I know...Trina offers an entire line of activewear! You can get the latest and greatest from this line at none other than BFly Activewear. To start things off, let's get to know Trina a little better.

    A True Californian:

Trina Turk is a true Californian through and through and it shows in her designs. Her free-spirit energy and creativity shines through in the bold and contemporary clothes she produces. Trina Turk was founded in 1995 by Trina and her husband. Annually, Trina Turk releases eleven different collections of women's ready-to-wear clothing and accessories, in addition to a swimwear line, Mr Turk for men and of course her activewear line!

A Few of My Favorite Things:

Of course everything from the Trina Turk Activewear line is to die for, but here are a few pieces I think really stand out.

    1. Coral Neo Geo Leggings Screen shot 2014-08-21 at 11.42.33 AMScreen shot 2014-08-21 at 11.47.28 AM

I personally own a pair of these and I can't describe how versatile they are. They look great and feel even better. I wear them around town when I'm looking for something comfortable and cute, as well as to my most demanding workouts. Cycling, running, yoga, whatever your ideal workout is, these leggings will perform like you need them to. My favorite little bonus feature is the hidden pocket inside the waistband. I end up sticking my gym membership card in it during workouts.

    2. Seafoam Jacquard Sports Bra

Trina Turk is known for vibrant, fun colors and this bra stands up to that. I am completely obsessed with the seafoam color (which looks great on everyone by the way). The mesh on the front and back of the bra allow it to be breathable, so you don't have to worry about feeling hot during your workout. In fact, the design of this bra is so cute, you won't want to cover it up with another shirt!

Screen shot 2014-08-21 at 11.52.27 AM3. Crossback Drape Tank

This tank is perfect for any occasion- whether it be getting physical or running to a lunch date with your friends. Available in three flattering colors, you can't go wrong with this top. The incredibly soft heathered modal material provides optimal comfort, but the best part is the back. The T-back is not only adorable, but it adds function to the top, providing a full range of movement. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Citron color, but of course the Black and Grey options are amazing too!

Basically, when it comes to fun and function- Trina Turk Activewear has it all! Don't forget to enter your email on BFly's homepage to get great discounts so you can stock up on all the latest and greatest offerings.

  • Alo+Yoga: A Match Made in Heaven

    August 14th, 2014

Yoga has been around for thousands of years, so what gives this exercise its lasting power? In a word, effectiveness. Actually, the more I talked to my friends who swear by yoga, the more I found it to be ingrained in their lifestyle. Many of them swear by it for stress-relief. All of them swear by its ability to produce results. Here at BFly Activewear, we carry the perfect brand to suit all your yoga needs: Alo Yoga. Alo uses the highest quality, most technologically-advanced fabrics to ensure their clothes fit all your needs. When it comes to providing maximum stretchability and temperature control, look no further- Alo has a product for you. Today I'm going to explore 3 popular types of yoga and 3 pieces by Alo that will pair perfectly with these types of classes.

    1. Bikram Yoga

Screen shot 2014-08-14 at 12.38.59 PMBikram Yoga was founded by Bikram Choudhury more than 30 years ago. Essentially, rooms are Screen shot 2014-08-14 at 12.42.21 PMartificially heated as you go through a series of 26 different poses. You're going to be pouring sweat. I'm serious. Pouring. But at the end of the class, you'll feel incredibly cleansed. It's very easy to find a local Bikram class near you. If you're in Los Angeles, try Bikram Yoga Downtown LA.

So now you know what Bikram is, what should you wear? You're going to need something cool and breezy. Alo Yoga has got you covered. For maximum breath-ability while you pose, try the Side Drape Tank by Alo Yoga. It comes in three different colors to suit your mood, but most importantly its high-quality fabric keeps temperatures down, even as you're working up a sweat.

    2. Hatha

Screen shot 2014-08-14 at 12.52.16 PMBasically, Hatha yoga is any type of yoga that's going to be teaching you the basic physical postures. It's a great place to start. If you want an easy introduction to the world of yoga, a class marked hatha is the place for you. At the end Screen shot 2014-08-14 at 12.51.41 PMof the class, you'll feel longer, leaner, and more relaxed.

In LA, try Yoga Circle Downtown. You won't build up as much of a sweat in this type of class, but you'll still need some leggings that keep you feeling covered and comfortable. That's what Alo's Block Leggings are perfect. I love the black and grey option and the fabric is so soft you won't believe it. When I'm in downward facing dog, the last thing I want to be worried about is being exposed to the rest of the class. The Block Leggings have got you covered- literally. With 4-way stretch technology, these leggings will meet all your yoga needs.

    3. Restorative

Screen shot 2014-08-14 at 12.59.46 PMStressed out? Need a breather? Try restorative yoga for all your frayed-nerve needs. In a Screen shot 2014-08-14 at 12.59.56 PMrestorative yoga class, you'll be using props such as blocks and blankets to assist you in your poses. You'll be exerting minimal effort compared to the other styles of yoga we've detailed, but yoga isn't all about the workout. It's just as much about the spiritual and emotional benefits. Once again, if you're in the LA area, call Yoga at the Raven to schedule a class. Everybody knows a good outfit can go a long way when it comes to feeling great about yourself, so throw on the Rolled Cuff Tunic by Alo Yoga in one of three great colors before you head to your restorative yoga class. You'll be looking great and feeling great inside and out in no time.

Now you're officially versed in all the basics of yoga. There's always so much more to learn, so why not learn by doing? Find a class near you today or try practicing at home. Do Yoga With Me is a great online resource for free yoga classes and lessons. But before you do either, make sure to stop by BFly Activewear to check out our Alo section and our section dedicated solely to yoga. • In the Know about NUX

    August 5th, 2014

NUXlogoLooking for the freshest fitness fashion? Workout wardrobe looking a little drab? Well look no further. BFly Activewear is proud to officially introduce one of our favorite brands- NUX. With the latest fitness fashion, NUX is always ahead of the game when it comes to both style and function. We were lucky enough to get a quick chat in with Katie Daniels, Operations Manager over at NUX. We started with a few questions about Katie herself before diving into what NUX is all about. So without further ado, I present to you the interview.

    Getting to Know Katie Daniels:

    1.    Treadmill or trail? Trail!

    2.    Favorite new fitness “trend” (i.e. barre workouts)? Aerial Yoga & HIT Training top our lists(this week!)

    3.    Favorite healthy meal? Though not a meal our whole office is obsessed with the fruit guy that sets up his stand across the street. Mango & Watermelon with Chili and Lime- just can’t get enough!

    4.    Favorite song off your workout playlist? AC/DC to Avicii

    5. Are there any products you would consider essential to fitness? Anything that makes you feel good.

    Getting to Know NUX:

    1.    First and foremost, what was the inspiration behind NUX Activewear? The super women we design for. The modern woman bike NUX'not only does it all but also are more fit and healthy than ever. We design for that woman who has a career, maintains a social life, and looks after her family. She cares and understands health is the corner stone to a happy life. She wakes up at 5AM to get a run in because that is the only time she has. She, though has had a long day, is standing the the grocery store isle reading all the labels. She is on the phone with a girlfriend late at night offering a shoulder to cry on. She is the glue that holds it all together and we love and admire her for it.

    2.    What sets your brand apart from the rest?
We do not design for athletes but athletes do wear (and love) our brand. We have several styles each season that are made using a body engineered technology which creates various compression levels. From no compression (wraps, cover-ups, tanks) up to high compression performance gear, we have something for everyone. Also, on the line we have bottoms that use Aquarius Yarns. These are yarns specifically used to help wick sweat from the body. As they are woven in and not an additive, these fibers get better with each wash. On top of all of that we are 100% made in Los Angeles- if we can’t make it here we don’t.
    3.    What activities are your products best suited for? We like to think of our brand as perfect from Lunge to Lunch. Activities can include more intense workouts like cross fit or HIT training to a walk with the dog or lunch with girlfriends. We have something for everyone.
    4.    Where did NUX start? Los Angeles, CA
    5.    Who was involved with the creation of NUX? Our CEO, Malek Neman
    6.    What is the most important message you want to communicate about NUX? INSPIRATION.
    7.    One of your favorite pieces from NUX? Our V-Fitness crop pant. They are a little deceiving as just looking at them they look like a simple bottom. But (in my opinion) the only pant to work out in. The have a v-waistband that, once on, require NO adjustment and NO muffin top. The fabrication is made from microfiber nylon/spandex- they feel like butter AND to top all of that they use a yarn called Aquarius that aids in sweat wicking. As it’s a yarn (part of the garment) and not an additive it actually gets better with each wash.
    8.    Do you find inspiration from current fashion trends? Totally, we like to look at what is happening on the runways- color stories patterns for our jacquards and find a way of making it our own.
    9.    Who is NUX’s target audience? The woman on the go.
I would like to thank Katie Daniels and everyone over at NUX for all their help and especially for designing such killer clothes! Now head on over to BFly Activewear to score some great new pieces from our friends at NUX! Don't forget to sign up with your email to receive special discounts and updates about everything BFly!
