So you've gone to BFly Activewear and stocked up on the cutest workout gear. Now what? You've got to actually put those clothes to good use! You've heard the phrase "there's an app for that" and its definitely true. But how effective are fitness apps? Shouldn't you just get out there and start sweating? What's really the point of an electronic voice screaming at you to do reps when you can count them in your head? In some cases, this is true. There's no substitute for good old fashioned hard work. However, I have come across a few apps that truly helped me go above and beyond what I thought were my limits.
I'm the type of person who would prefer to have a jacked personal trainer in my face constantly yelling at me to go faster and push harder. I find it motivating and I thrive off the accountability. I don't always have time for that though. This is where fitness apps come in. I've compiled a list of 3 Essential Fitness Apps that are tried and tested and proved their worthiness. So without further ado, I bring you the list.
1. 0 to 10k Runner: I really can't express how great my faith is in this app. I would marry it. Well maybe not, but the ability of this little app to motivate me to sign up for a half-marathon was something I'd never experienced in an iPhone application. I went from struggling mightily to run a single mile to running 7 miles in just six weeks. This isn't a joke. I've never been a runner, but I was in decent(ish) shape. This app breaks down each run into intervals of running and walking. This makes the distances seem incredibly manageable without making it too easy. A voice tells you when to start running and then when to start walking. You can also play music over the app so there's no worrying about hearing your own pants and puffs as you workout. The apps also features achievement badges such as ran a 3k. It seems like a very juvenile feature, but the badges are actually super motivating. Take my word for it, if you're interesting in running as a form of exercise GET THIS APP. And when it comes time for you to run that 10k (I just know you'll be signing up for) why not sport some high fashion fitnesswear? 2. Map My Run: This is a very popular app for good reason. Who doesn't want to know the total distance of their run/walk/ride? This app literally maps out the route you run while providing voice updates on the total distance you've traveled. It's also totally compatible with your music so you can stay pumped up while you get your move on. You can also follow your friends and compare runs- this is a great way to stay accountable and motivated. Imagine yourself in some banging blue NUX Activewear Camilla Capris while you knock out a 5k. Smart and stylish.
3. Pandora Internet Radio: Ok, so this isn't technically a "fitness app," but if you aren't using Pandora during your workout you're missing out big time. It's kind of like not owning a Heroine Sport Racer Jacket (sidenote: you're going to look like a total badass in this jacket.) Pandora is absolutely essential to my workouts. No matter what mood you're in, Pandora has a station that's going to get you pumped up and sweating. The music library is limitless, you're going to discover new music every time you step on the treadmill. I've tried making my own workout playlists (like countless others) and quickly became bored with my selection. Pandora solves this problem...for free. Some stations I'm a big fan of are Dance Cardio (if you're feeling some high-energy David Guetta jams) and Classic Rock Power Workout (if you're feeling inspiring Journey while you crank out some crunches). Seriously show me someone who's going to quit running while "Don't Stop Believing" is blaring through your earbuds.
